Many thanks to the author George for writing this. As George puts it at the very beginning, this letter is a retelling of his own personal experience, which he and only he may own. So, I am reading it, as George has wanted me to do so which is, with the grain of salt. The level of emotionality in this letter does tip off the balance of the letter quite a bit. It would be great if the tone of the letter stays neutral, as in a factual presentation, throughout.
I think there're quite a few interesting points about this particular culture that I can see being quite toxic. Many thanks to George for sharing. That said, it could also be said that people may have different views of a single incident that they happen to share. Some might feel as though it's making them stronger (since it doesn't kill them), while some might feel as though it's an abuse of power, a bullying, an ambiguity-led and deliberate traumatization. It would be nice to see this story unfold. I hope that George may get more information and story to synthesize and share with the world.
